Handprint Art for each Month of the Year.
Use the themes below as a guide for your monthly Calendar themes.
On any colour construction paper, help your child write out the months of the year from January to December. Cut out the titles and store them away.
JANUARY
For the month of January, cover your child’s palms with different colour paint, perhaps one colour on each finger. Place widespread fingers on construction paper (preferably black) to create New Year’s Day Fireworks and let dry. You can use glitter to add some sparkle to your fireworks in celebration of the new year.
FEBRUARY
For the month of February, cover your child’s palms with different colour paint on each finger. Place widespread fingers on construction paper to create a Carnival Headpiece. When dry, draw a triangle upside down at the base of the palm and decorate as you desire (preferably with glitter). (Optional) Draw the face of a happy reveller on Carnival Day in anticipation of the two-day street festival.
MARCH
For the month of March, cover your child’s palms with brown paint. Place widespread fingers on construction paper (preferably blue). When dry, draw a beak at the base of the palm and a pair of eyes and a pair of legs at the side of the palm. You can draw a branch to perch your Nightingale in commemoration of Florence Nightingale for International Women’s Day in March.
APRIL
Spring is in the air for the month of April, and flowers are abloom. Cover your child’s hand with the one colour they like the most, and place palm on construction paper (preferably blue). When dry, draw a green stem at the base of the palm for a blossoming flower in Spring.
MAY
May the fourth be with you for Star Wars Day in the Month of May with this fun and easy Chewbacca Handprint Art. Cover your child’s palms with brown paint. Place closed fingers on construction paper (preferably black). When dry, outline your handprint with black and on the palm of the hand place two black eyes, a nose and the mischievous smile of Chewy. Over the fingers, draw a black sash with white dots to form Chewy’s utility belt. This is sure to get you hyped for the month of May.
JUNE
Get your kids ready to learn about environmentalism in the month of June for World Oceans Day with a cute Dory Handprint Art. Cover your child’s palms with blue paint. Place widespread fingers on construction paper (preferably blue). When dry, paint two white stripes across the palm of the hand, a thin black line and a small eye at the base of the palm. Dory is sure to remind us that June is a great month to look forward to.
JULY
Hot sun and Beach, lots of playtime and Ice-cream. Have your kids look forward to the beginning of the July/August Vacation with their own Handprint Ice-cream Art. On any colour construction paper draw/paint a triangle upside down to form your ice-cream cone. Cover your child’s hand with any colour paint (preferably white) and place above the cone, with fingers overlapping your cone. When dry, sprinkle your melting ice-cream cone with glitter if you desire.
AUGUST
In preparation for our country’s Independence, cover your child’s palms with red paint and place widespread horizontally on construction paper (preferably blue). When dry, outline fingers with black paint and draw one vertical line at the base of the palm to proudly fly your flag high for Independence Day in the month of August.
SEPTEMBER
Get ready for School with this Crayola Box Name Tag Handprint. Cover your child’s palms with yellow paint and 4 forefingers in blue, red, orange and green. Place on construction paper of any colour and let dry. Next, draw a thick green line at the base of the palm to resemble the bottom of the Crayola box. Label your crayon box with your child’s name to get them in the back to school spirit in September.
OCTOBER
Embrace the festival of lights in October with a Deya Handprint. Cover your child’s palms in brown paint. Place closed fingers horizontally on construction paper (preferably black). When dry, outline handprint in brown paint and use yellow paint to draw a flame at the top of your deya for Divali.
NOVEMBER
To teach the values of cultural diversity in our country and equality whilst encouraging creativity, get ready to celebrate Human Rights Day with Rainbow Coloured Handprint Art. Cover your child’s hand with the colours of the rainbow (i.e. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). Place your child’s palm on any colour construction paper and let dry.
DECEMBER
Tis the season for Christmas Trees! Cover your child’s palms with green paint. Place widespread hands upside down in rows of 5,4,3,2,1 consecutively. When dry, use different coloured paints and glitter to decorate your tree in anticipation of a Merry Christmas!
When complete, cut out the themed printers and pin to your DIY New Year’s Day Calendar.
