Designate a driver. If you know you and your friends usually indulge in alcohol, make sure one person is sober and responsible for getting you home safely.

Don’t accept drinks from strangers. Ladies especially, don’t be paranoid but be careful not to take drinks from every guy who offers you one.

Move in a group. This Carnival, find safety in numbers. If you have to separate from your party for a while, be sure to let at least one person know and communicate by cell phone if necessary.

Limit the amount of cash and valuables you walk with. Don’t draw unnecessary attention to yourself or make yourself an easy target. If you do lose cash or your phone, it would hurt you much less if it’s only a small amount of cash and a cheap mobile device.

Know your limit. Do not drink in excess of what your body can handle.
