Nyrell Hosein (46kg class), Juan Rodriguez (53kg) and Nickelle Joseph (75kg) all achieved their dreams of winning a gold medal. Silver medals were won by Abdul Taylor in the 39-kg weight category, Tyrique Hosein in the 43kg class, Edwin Felix (54 kg), and lastly Blessing Waldropt (57kg).

The boxers and their coaches arrived in Trinidad and were treated to a brief reception at the VIP lounge of the Piarco International Airport where they recounted their tales. Merril Simon, coach of the team said, “I think the entire team impressed and despite initial anxiety, they all trained hard and followed the strategy. They achieved what they set out to achieve and we expect more in the future. Boxing can take the children from the streets as much as possible.”

The regional event started on Thursday and ended on Sunday, and hosted boxers from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Jamaica and Barbados, all compete for honours.

It is truly inspiring to have our young people represent Trinidad and Tobago so well on a regional scale.
