T&T’s Talented Leading Lady – Taromi Lourdes

The country’s most sought-after actress, Taromi Lourdes is busy auditioning in the United States as this article is being written. She has just finished co-hosting season 1 of The Sisterhood, CCN TV 6 and finished a bustling time at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival(TTFF) 2018. With 3 films under her belt this year in the film festival, it’s easy to see why she is our leading lady.

Taromi has a repertoire that precedes her and continues to blossom with every role she plays. Whether she’s a television or mistress of ceremonies, spokesmodel, singer, actress, you name it, Taromi executes whichever role she chooses to play flawlessly.

In fact, it’s safe to say that Taromi’s acting talents effortlessly established her as a familiar household name and many relate to her with ease. Whether onstage or on the big screen, Taromi Lourdes’ ability to connect with the diverse, highly critical Trinbagonian audience for so long is not only impressive, it is a testament to her professionalism and versatility as an actress.

From her humble beginnings in Belmont, Trinidad, Taromi understood very early that she wanted to pursue her a career in acting. As such, she quickly became a part of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop (TTW), with the Theatre In Education (TIE) Programme.

Having studied at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts School of Film and Television (NYCDA), her roles have honed her raw talents, landing her parts in local films such as “How Many Times” (which went to Cannes Short Film Festival, “Between Friends”, and “Limbo.” And who can forget her compelling stage performances in “The Vagina Monologues,” “Natalie Needs a Nightie,” and “An Echo in the Bone.”

Her latest venture, “Don’t Say a Word”, was a benefit stage play that addressed the topic of domestic violence in Trinidad and Tobago to assist with cerebral coiling surgery for the wife of playwright Wendell Etienne. Her involvement in work’s like these is not unlike her current venture as a talk show host and demonstrates her commitment and willingness to use her platform to address social issues.

To add to this amazing list of accomplishments, Taromi participated in three films at the TTFF 2018 – Hush-A-Bye (writer, director, producer, lead actress), Lady in the River (lead actress), and For the Love of the Money (lead actress). These achievements made her the first local actress to be featured in three films at the TTFF. Taromi can also be seen in many TV commercials and billboards throughout Trinidad. Her award-winning films have been screened the world over, most notably at Cannes Short Film Festival. She’s worked alongside Marvel’s own Winston Duke, The Young and the Restless’ Noel Arthur, Reservoir Dogs’ Kirk Baltz and interviewed Wyclef Jean, Grace Jones, and Morgan Heritage to name a few.

Taromi is a friendly energetic ball of light whose smile brightens a room and whose talent swells beyond the screen. This Christmas season, she will be bringing cheer to concert patrons across the country and shooting a music video.

In an evolving film and television industry, the multitalented, friendly, down-to-earth ball of light is the easiest person to reach out to. Check out her Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages to see what she’s up to in between shoots and rehearsals.
