Trinidad and Tobago’s Piarco International Airport is ranked as the best in the Caribbean, according to the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (“the Authority”). The Authority received this prestigious recognition from the Skytrax 2019 World Airports Awards.
In addition to this top ranking, Piarco International Airport also attained Third Best Airport in the ‘Global Region – Central America and Caribbean’ category. This signals a notable improvement from the 2018 rankings as the Piarco International Airport bypassed its close competitors: the Norman Manley International Airport in Jamaica and the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.
Hayden Newton, General Manager of the Authority believes that this latest achievement affirms the work of the organization as they bring their strategic objectives to fruition. “We have placed great focus on using innovation to enhance the customer experience at our airport facilities. These awards prove that our efforts are bearing fruit and giving us competitive advantage,” he said.
The Authority seems to be on a winning streak as it is also recognized by the Airports Council International for promoting regulatory compliance and adherence to international best practices. The Authority continues to help airports around the world to achieve excellence in safety and security in this regard.
The Piarco International Airport which is known for its state-of-the-art passenger processing systems will be further upgraded through the implementation of a number of strategic initiatives. According to the Authority, these measures will ensure even higher standards of customer service at both the Piarco and ANR Robinson International Airports.
