Now it’s do or die time again unfortunately and while many have given up hope, there are still a few who secretly wish that we can secure qualification for Russia 2018. It’s now up to former T&T World Cup defender Dennis Lawrence who is now at the helm. No doubt football fans would be on the edge of their seats to see the developments ahead. However, I wish to give tribute to the Stephen Hart era which has gone by and the players who have played an integral role under his guidance.
Jan Michael Williams – Jan has matured over the years from being a young, bright, athletic prospect to being one of the most consistent custodians in the Caribbean. His experience now shines through as he has been able to help monitor the backline and of course let them know when he is not pleased. The name that comes to mind is Iker Casillas.
Daneil Cyrus – Cyrus has the Yaya Toure physicality with added speed and the aggressive positioning of Dani Alves which of course results in deficiencies in getting back to defend. However, if he is given a free pass to attack, I believe his ability would improve along with his fitness level to help him get back in defensive position. Daneil Cyrus is composed on the ball, has a great cross and has miles of potential not yet discovered.
Khaleem Hyland – It’s no secret T&T has had midfield issues in the past but Khaleem brings that confidence and composure that is always necessary. He is a box to box midfielder and one of the more technically sound players considering his range of passing, his effectiveness defensively and his vision in attack. A great asset to his game is his shooting ability with both feet which makes us think of only one midfielder … Toni Kroos.
Levi Garcia – This young man has loads of speed, dribbling ability, and can finish like Eden Hazard. Levi is a great option as a left-sided attacker not just because a speed but he has a great first touch. He is fearless and ready to take on the world with his ability but I believe that experience will be the critical factor in his development as a dynamic player.
Looking ahead to our Panama fixture today, we see the qualities these players can bring to the table. Our twin isle nation may be a way off from World Cup qualification but we believe we have the talent to qualify. Stay tuned as we spotlight more of T&T stars who need the show up on the Road to Russia 2018.
