On February 14th, 2016, West Indies Under-19 Boys won their first ever World Cup, beating India by five wickets with three balls to spare in Dhaka.
Creating history
The young team created history, leaving the West Indies Women Senior team and the West Indies Men team no other choice, but to follow suit. It was a great year for all three cricket teams to win the World Cup and what a perfect time it was for Bravo’s hit song “Champion”. Fans were full of euphoria with everyone’s fists clenched as they did the popular Champion dance.
Time to defend the title
Now, the time has come for the West Indies Under-19 team to defend the title in 2018 in New Zealand. Their preparation commences from December 9th-20th in Grenada. Six cricketers from Trinidad and Tobago have been selected to participate. They are Keagan Simmons, Kirstan Kallicharan, Cephas Cooper, Navin Bidaisee, Matthew Patrick and Te-Shawn Alleyne.
This camp will be focusing on bringing the guys together, and getting physically and mentally prepared for what is in store for the team. The camp will also prepare a team for the Regional Super50, and a pre-tournament camp will be held with the final team, January 17th –21st.
